Reality Bites

Robert James "Bobby" Fischer, a former World Chess Champion and highly controversial figure, died in Reykjavik last night. And with his death my husband's dream of meeting and playing him has come to an end too. Bobby Fisher was one of the reason why Ted wanted to come to Iceland. But as he pointed out, at the moment he played every living world chess champion except Boris Spassky. Coincidentally, Bobby Fischer never returned to the US after his rematch with Spassky in 1992.

Yesterday I had a very telling email exchange. Several days ago I wrote an inquiry to one of the museums here. When the answer didn't come for some time, I wrote another letter to a different member of the same facility. In a matter of an hour I got answers from both people. The letter of a person I have contacted first started: " I apologize for the delay in answearing your questions..." It is so neat! In one small typo the person managed to convey what he thought about my lack of patience.

Poor Ted, but you know he probably could not have played him anyway if he wanted to keep his clearance. Not that that makes Ted feel better...

Didn't think about it, but yes, it could have been true :)
